Accessibility
Wealden District Council is continually working towards improving and maintaining the accessibility and usability of our website. We have recently redesigned our website, with the aim to make it more accessible, mobile and user-friendly. Desktop and Mobile Devices
The online mapping system can be used on mobile phones, tablets and desktops.
Unfortunately, there are some features of the mapping system which are not available whilst on “Mobile” mode. If you are using a mobile device you can switch to desktop mode by clicking on “Desktop” in the menu.
Navigating the Map
Using a Mouse
Using the scroll wheel on a mouse will zoom the map in and out. Left-clicking and dragging will pan the map across in your direction.
Using a Touchscreen
When using the online mapping on a mobile device, the map will move with touch and it is possible to zoom in and out by pinching the map.
Menu Options
Most tasks can be carried out from the Menu, from here you are able to select from the following options:
Map Features
Map features contain geographical information that may be of interest to you, such as recycling points or car park locations. The ‘Map Features’ option allows you to switch on/off layers. Some map data has been grouped so that you can switch on multiple layers at once. To view all layers in a group, check the grey box to the left.
These group layers can be expanded by selecting the black triangle to the right of the group name, enabling you to view layers individually.
Some layers may have additional information, which can be viewed by selecting the blue information icon.
Once a map layer has been selected, you can select data on the map to view more information by clicking on area you are interested in, the extra information which will then be displayed in a pop-up box. Some layers will hold more information than can be displayed in the pop-up box. Click “Show more” to display all information in a separate window on the screen.
Local Knowledge
The Local Knowledge tool uses either your current location, or the centre of the map, if your current location is unavailable, to display information specific to that particular location. If you move the map and would like to see information for the new area, please click the “Search” button to update results.
The only time the map will not use your current map location for Local Knowledge is if you have searched for a specific address and the results will reflect this address regardless of where you are on the map unless you cancel the search.
Search by Area
The Search by Area function (desktop mode only) allows you to perform spatial searches on certain data. Simply select the data you wish to search choose how you would like to define the search area. You have options to define your search area or define it by another layer, such as parishes, which is currently displayed on the map.
The results will then be displayed in a tabular view, where it is possible to “Zoom to Selected” features.
Please note that this function is not available in the mobile view.
Measure
With the measure tool (desktop mode only) it is possible to take measurements of map data. Simply select whether you would like to measure an area or line and “draw” the area or line on the map (double clicking to complete measurement). The results will be displayed in the left hand pane and units can be selected as required.
Please note that this function is not available in the mobile view.
Zoom to Coordinates
This options enables you to search for specific location by entering an easting and northing into the search boxes.
Search Function
The search function on the online mapping allows users to search addresses, postcodes and planning application numbers. Simply start typing into the search box and click enter (results may automatically start appearing below). The first five initial results are listed, however there is an option to load more results. Simply click on any result to zoom to that location on the map.
Map Tools
The map tools location at the top of the map are as follows:
Select this button to load the map at your current location
The home button returns the map to the initial location
