Wine expert Oz Clarke supports English Wine Week
Publish Date: 9 July 2024
This year’s English Wine Week was celebrated by Wealden District Council with the launch of the new Explore Wealden Wine Trail and a virtual wine tasting with English wine expert, Oz Clarke.
English Wine Week presents an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the fantastic array of wines being produced in this country and particularly across Wealden and Sussex.
During the virtual tasting, Oz took attendees on a tour through the wineries of Wealden and invited several of the district’s wine makers who are part of the new Explore Wealden Wine Trail to showcase their wine and provide insight into the wine making process.
The event was hugely successful, with over 80 attendees signed up, and a mixture of both consumer and trade customers. Since the event, many of the buyers have already been in touch directly with the vineyards to list their wines.
Oz Clarke said, “The new Explore Wealden Wine Trail stretches from the Ashdown Forest in the High Weald right down to the thrilling Seven Sisters chalk cliffs in the south. East Sussex is a beautiful county full of variety and fascination and this new wine trail will show it at its very best – so please use it.”
Councillor Paul Coleshill, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Climate Change and Economy said, “The launch of the new Explore Wealden Wine Trail will help to raise awareness of Wealden’s vineyards. The new trail invites visitors to embark on a journey by visiting the award-winning Sussex vineyards, offering wine tastings and picnics, vineyard tours, nature trails and special events. It is a wonderful way to spend a weekend discovering the natural landscape, supporting businesses and finding some great locally sourced wines.”
