Open day hosted at Wealden Crematorium

Wealden Crematorium’s Open Day was held in July this year to give visitors the chance to see the state-of-the-art crematorium alongside its gardens in full bloom.
The Wealden District Council-owned facility – just south of Horam – opened its doors once again to encourage residents across East Sussex and beyond to meet the friendly and knowledgeable team, ask questions and learn about the cremation process.
More than 150 people attended giving them the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the crematory and to understand more about funeral services, memorials and the gardens of remembrance
There was also the chance to learn more about membership of the metals recycling scheme which helps to raise money for local charities whilst decreasing the need to mine new metals to use in medical implants.
Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health, Wellbeing and Asset Management, said “We host the open days each year to give people living in the district and beyond the chance to ask questions and spend time with the crematorium staff. When I spoke to people who attended the open day, it was clear that there were many different personal reasons why people had decided to visit. Some wanted to look around the grounds and others were looking for guidance and reassurance.”
