The scheme at The Nightingales, Crowborough, is due for handover at the end of August 2024. There are three two-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses available for sale on a shared ownership basis, which will be available to local people who meet the affordability criteria for obtaining a mortgage on the share purchased.

Wealden District Council has appointed Connells as their sales agent, which will manage the purchase from reservation through to the completion of sale.

Residents interested in the homes need to be over 18 years old, unable to buy a home suitable for their needs on the open market and have sufficient savings for a mortgage deposit.

A council spokesperson said, “The scheme allows people to buy a home if they cannot afford a deposit or mortgage payments for a home that meets their needs on the open market. The buyer will purchase a share of the property which is usually between 25% and 75% of the home’s full market value, the buyer then pays rent to the landlord, in this case Wealden District Council for the share that the landlord owns.”
