Wealden District Council has always believed that learning and development is an ongoing process and that all employees should be encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to them.
A considerable amount of time and money is devoted to ensuring that staff are provided with the training necessary to ensure that their personal and technical development continues during their time at Wealden.
By so doing the Council can be confident that its staff are not only well trained and technically proficient, but that they also are keeping abreast of all development and changes in their respective fields. This in turn ensure that service delivery to the public is of the highest possible standard.
Learning and development takes many forms such as “classroom” style learning, “learning on the job”, and increasingly e-learning. Staff are also encouraged to study for professional qualifications and in recent years individuals have qualified in the Environmental Health, Planning, Finance, Legal and Housing Service Areas.
The Council funds all such activity and staff are expected to take a pro-active lead in their personal development to ensure that they have “ownership” of their individual training programmes. By doing so, staff can participate fully in determining their own needs and ensuring that such needs are satisfied.
Individuals who are considering applying to the Council for employment can be confident that if appointed, close attention will be paid both to their development and to their future career progression.
