The Disability Confident symbol represents the policy setup by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is an identity accredited to employers by the DWP. It shows that Wealden has a positive approach to employing disabled people. In order to display this symbol, Wealden District Council has to assess the work the Council does for current staff and when recruiting new staff to ensure it meets the core themes of the policy. The Council also has to demonstrate how it participates in activities recommended by the Government to recruit fairly; give opportunities for everyone to experience work; work with other organisations who support disabled people looking for work as well as train and support existing staff.
You will see the symbol displayed on Wealden District Council’s job adverts and application form.
Wealden District Council is positive about employing disabled people and we are keen to know about your abilities. As users of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy; we will ensure their individual needs are factored into the interview environment, making adjustments to ensure the interview experience is as accommodating as possible for every candidate.
Some of the policies we have developed so far may be attracted to disabled people such as flexible working, job-sharing, home working. We can work together with our Occupational Health Adviser and the Disability Service Team at Job Centre Plus (external link) to offer advice on adapting workstations and financial help may be obtained as appropriate. It is important that we continue to work towards improving our services in this area.
