Do you have an active interest in how national, regional and local policy development affects the people of Wealden and have a desire to help shape and deliver high quality services across the council?

Who?

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in Local Government to work in our Policy, Insight and Communications Team. The team deals with partnership working, public and media relations, performance management and policy development across the broad spectrum of District Council work.

What will you be doing?

This post will concentrate on proactively monitoring the changing political and economic landscape, identifying emerging policies and legislation, working with officers across the authority to assess potential risks and opportunities and communicate these effectively to the council’s Senior Leadership Team and Members.

The role also supports the council’s performance management and policy development, offering guidance and support in the creation and management of effective policies, strategies and plans. This role also supports teams across the authority in identifying potential opportunities to celebrate success including award entries and developing case studies.

Other tasks will include researching, collating and presenting data and best practice examples to support projects and decision making processes. This will involve analysing consultation findings, demographic data and contextual information in a variety of formats. You will also be responsible for writing committee reports and briefings, and supporting the team with community empowerment, engagement and communications work as needed.

What do you need?

You will have a broadly relevant degree in Economics, Business Studies, Politics or a similar qualification or work experience. You’ll also need to have an advanced standard of computer literacy and knowledge of local and national government practices.

In addition to a high level of literacy and numeracy you will need to be an excellent and effective researcher and communicator, comfortable with working alongside people at all levels of the organisation and wider networking. You will be proactive, confident acting on your own initiative and as part of a team, and be able to stay calm under pressure.

What do we offer?

  • Working for a great, forward-thinking Local Authority.
  • Excellent salary, pension, flexible working, fantastic employee benefits and comprehensive staff health & wellbeing scheme.
  • A friendly, supportive team and a range of opportunities for continuing professional development.
  • Hybrid working with the ability to work from home as well as from our newly refurbished offices in Hailsham.
  • Free parking.
