Care homes offer 24-hour care and support, accommodation and meals. You may need to consider moving into a care home if:
- you can no longer cope living at home, even with extra help and adaptations to your home
- you need more help than sheltered housing/retirement living or extra care housing can provide
There are two types:
- Residential care homes have trained staff to support you with personal care.
- Nursing homes provide personal care and also have trained nursing staff on duty.

Unless you can afford to access a private care home you will need to be assessed by Adult Social Care to ensure this is the best option to meet your housing, support and care needs.
