This section explains the ways in which you can pay your council tax.
By direct debit

By Pay-point card
You can pay your council tax by cash at any Pay-Point or Post Office using a Pay-Point card.
By phone, 24 hours a day

You only get a choice of payment dates if you pay by direct debit. You can choose one of three dates in the month to pay, 1st, 15th or 25th. Where these dates fall on a weekend or a bank holiday, your payment will be taken on the next working day.
If you do not pay by direct debit your payment should reach us on or before 15th of each month. If for any reason your payment is going to be more than a couple of days late, please let us know.
If you start the council tax year paying us one way and wanted to change, you don’t have to wait until the start of the next year, when you receive a new bill. For example you might start the year by sending us cheques and then 2 months later decided that direct debit was more convenient.
The total balance that you need to pay for the year and your instalments will be shown on your most recent bill.
We have to give you 10 instalments on the bill that we send to you at the start of each financial year. If you want to pay in 12 instalments you can, but you must request this by writing to us, or by sending us an email. If you want to pay the total bill in one payment you can, as long as the payment is made on or before 15th April. If you want to pay twice yearly you can as long as you pay 5 instalments by the 15th April and 5 by the 15th September. Any later than this and you could receive a reminder.
