Domestic violence is any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between adults who are or have been in a relationship together, or between family members, regardless of gender or sexuality. View further information on advice for Specific Client Groups page.
Whatever form it takes, domestic violence is rarely a one-off incident. More usually it’s a pattern of abusive and controlling behaviour through which the abuser seeks power over their victim.
During 2015 East Sussex County Council worked with Brighton & Hove City Council, and other associate commissioners, to procure a new domestic or sexual abuse or violence specialist service, with a focus on redesigning provision to make sure people receive the best help, in the right way, when they need it, while also ensuring the most effective use of resources. You can find out more about that process here.
The Portal, part of that new specialist service, is a partnership of leading Sussex Domestic and Sexual abuse and violence, helping them to find the right help, advice and support.
The Portal can also give advice and support to friends, families and professionals.
