Wealden District Council is committed to improving the quality of life and wellbeing of our residents through our leisure and sports provision as well as helping to improve access to community services, facilities and green spaces.
The newly formed Leisure and Wellbeing Team are looking for an enthusiastic, self-starter who is looking to make a difference by supporting community health and wellbeing initiatives; awarding grant funding to improve sports and leisure provision and through developing positive working relationships with local partners and organisations.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Team. Current priorities include the construction of a new £16m Community Sports Hub as well as the delivery of £600,000 of funding to improve local community and sports provision as well as the forthcoming procurement of the leisure centre contract alongside updating and refreshing the Council’s Health and Wellbeing strategy.

What will you be doing?
The postholder will be,
- Leading on the promotion and administration of the Sports Infrastructure Fund which is a three-year funding programme until 2027.
- Supporting the wider Team in the contract management of the Leisure Centres and the new Community Sports Hub once it’s built in 2026.
- Taking an active role in engaging with the community to help refresh and inform the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and,
- Helping to promote ‘Healthy Wealden’ and wider initiatives to promote active and healthy lifestyles to residents.
As the post is part time, there is flexibility around the days/ hours worked. Some evening/ weekend work may be required.
What do you need?
- At least 2 years’ experience of working with a wide range of partners and community groups on projects and service delivery matters relating to leisure, health and wellbeing.
- Some experience of writing successful grant bids and delivery of grant funded projects, including budget management and reporting.
- A good level of IT skills is required which includes using Microsoft Office products and some experience of marketing and promotion through websites and social media.
- Good communication skills, good customer service and proactive relationship building with internal and external stakeholders.
