Celebrating the Triumph of Team GB

A Team GB athlete who won gold in the 2024 summer Olympics, hails from Wealden.

Wealden District Council is immensely proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Team GB and sends a special congratulations to Team GB athlete Emily Craig, who is from Mark Cross, near Crowborough and won gold in the lightweight double sculls category, rowing with her partner Imogen Grant.

Emily was a member of Bewl Bridge Rowing Club, at Bewl Water.

Chair of Wealden District Council, Councillor Jessika Hulbert, said “The dedication, determination, and sportsmanship of our athletes competing in the Olympics has brought enormous pride and joy to our communities and the nation.

“From record-breaking performances to inspiring moments of teamwork, athletes have shown what it means to strive for excellence. The success is evidence of all their hard work, the support of their coaches, families, fans, and the spirit of unity that brings us all together. Their journey is inspirational, and we should continue to support and encourage our local athletes and sports people.”

Together, we can achieve great things and make our community shine even brighter.

Councillor Kelvin Williams, Alliance for Wealden (Liberal Democrat) and lead councillor for Public Health, Wellbeing and Asset Management said, “The Olympics has truly united everyone, and Wealden District Council will continue to support local sports clubs to improve facilities throughout the district to ensure they are accessible to all.

“This is an important part of the council’s wellbeing strategy to ensure people of all ages have good access to sports facilities. We really hope the recent Olympic success inspires our young people to become the stars of the future.
