The Reopening High Streets Safely Fund is enabling Wealden District Council to introduce a range of safety measures to help people return to work and customers back to our shops and hospitality businesses, as restrictions allow.
What we are doing
We have employed two dedicated Information Officers who are providing advice and information to help businesses operate safely. We are also rolling out a public information campaign to reassure people that our high streets and neighbourhood shopping areas are safe.
This is being delivered in close co-operation with local stakeholders, including Town and Parish Councils, Chambers of Commerce and community groups to ensure our activities meet local needs.
Project funding
High streets are critical to the economic recovery of our towns and villages and this fund builds on others already in place to support their revival.
Funding for this project comes from the
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that the government is making available to councils to support businesses to re-open safely. The project must be completed by 31 March 2021.
Wealden is receiving up to £143,302 of funding for this project from the ERDF as part of the
European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
The government is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund (EDRF). Established by the European Union, the EDRF helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
