District Council Elections 2 May 2019

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) is an independent body set up by Parliament. They carried out an electoral review of Wealden between September 2015 – December 2016. The aim of the review was to deliver electoral equality for voters in local elections and recommend ward boundaries that means each councillor represented approximately the same number of electors.

The electoral review decided:

  • How many councillors are needed
  • How many wards or electoral divisions there should be, where are their boundaries and what they should be called
  • How many councillors should represent each ward or division

Conclusion

Currently Wealden District Council has 55 elected Members in 35 wards. The review concluded that this would be changed to 45 Councillors: ten fewer than the current arrangements. This means that those councillors should represent 41 wards – 37 one-councillor wards and 4 two-councillor wards. This will take effect at the next elections which will be 2 May 2019.

Standing for election

To stand for election you will need to complete Nomination papers. These will be available from the Returning officer via the Electoral Services Team from early March 2019. Nomination papers are provided along with guidance notes from the Electoral Commission and a timetable of key dates. To request a Nomination pack please contact the Elections team using the contact details at the bottom of the page.

Nomination papers must be delivered by recorded post or by hand between Tuesday 26 March 2019 and 4pm 3rd April 2019

Informal check of Nomination papers

The Returning officer offers informal checks of your completed Nomination papers before they are formally submitted. This gives candidates the chance to make any necessary corrections before handing them in. These informal checks can be booked from Tuesday 26 March 2019. Please contact us using the contact number in the box below to arrange an appointment.
