Celebrating older people

A talk by Lady Crabtree on Growing Old Disgracefully, three Dementia-Friendly film screenings and a live show by the stars of London’s Brick Lane Music Hall are among the highlights of this year’s Older People’s Day celebrations.


The events are taking place across Wealden and East Sussex from now until the end of October. There are also coffee mornings in Hailsham and Herstmonceux and a talk by Age UK in Crowborough.


The Brick Lane Music Hall comes to Rotherfield Village Hall on 7 October and Dowager Lady Crabtree hosts afternoon tea at Uckfield Community Centre on 26 October.


The Dementia-Friendly screening of Roger and Hammerstein’s Carousel takes place at Ninfield Memorial Hall on 20 September. This is followed by a Dementia-Friendly screening of The Wizard of Oz at Hailsham Pavilion on 27 September and The Band Wagon, staring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse, at Hailsham Pavilion on 25 October,


Freedom Leisure is also hosting a range of activities suitable for older people including Swim 50+, Walking Football, Aqua Rehab, Walking Netball and Older People’s gym sessions. All for just £1 on presentation of this year’s Older People’s Day events programme which can be  downloaded from East Sussex County Council’s website (external link)



There are also Health Walks taking place every day of the week except Sunday at venues across East Sussex.
