Referendum for Herstmonceux Neighbourhood Plan

Media Release : 27 March 2018

On Thursday 3 May, residents of Herstmonceux Parish will be asked to have their say in a referendum. This will determine if they support using a neighbourhood plan to help decide local planning applications.

Ballot Box

"This will be the first Neighbourhood plan referendum that we’ve had in Wealden and is a great example of how local democracy matters," said District Returning Officer Charles Lant. "Herstmonceux Parish Council has put a lot of work in to get to this stage of the process and I encourage all those that can vote to read up on the plan and have their say."

Residents will be asked to answer:

‘Do you want Wealden District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Herstmonceux to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?’

The Notice of Referendum is being published on 27 March and Polling Day is 3 May.

Poll cards for the referendum will be sent out on 30 March. Herstmonceux residents will have until April 17 to apply to register to vote, but they do not need to if they are already on the electoral role. The deadline to apply to vote by post in the referendum is April 18.

There are no other elections taking place in Wealden on 3 May.
