We are the Industry Champions

Media Release : 13 March 2019

Wealden District Council has been given the accolade of “Industry Champions” by East Sussex County Council (ESCC).

Industry Champions

The award is recognised by all schools in East Sussex and highlights the careers support offered by Wealden to local young people in the District.

Cllr Nick Collinson, Portfolio Holder for Community Leadership and Human Resources said: "We’re pleased to accept this award from the County Council in recognition of our work to improve the career prospects of our local young people. Wealden runs a first-class apprenticeship scheme, attends careers fairs, helps to facilitate mock interviews at local schools, and has accommodated many work experience students. We’re thrilled to be highlighted as Industry Champions, bringing this important work to the attention of other local businesses. We hope they too will be inspired to join us in supporting the workforce of the future."

Kim Bulgin from ESCC said: "Our growing number of Industry Champions are invaluable to schools looking to boost career prospects and provisions, and have provided over 1,000 employer interactions with young people since the programme began. Wealden District Council have been a great promoter of the scheme and our whole Enterprise Adviser Network, endorsing our work with their local businesses. They are also a great and proactive Industry Champion themselves taking part in careers fairs and offering their own apprenticeship programme; providing valuable and meaningful student connections."
