Job Vacancy:Administrative Assistant (Waste Management)

Job Information

£18,450 - £20,499 p.a

Contract Type:

Full Time, Temporary (to 31st December 2019)

37 per week

Council Offices, Hailsham

There is a lot going on within the Waste team and we need you to support us as we change from one external contractor to another in June 2019. You will ideally have an interest in environmental issues as you will be taking and resolving queries from local householders concerning collections, recycling and other waste related issues. When the new contractor starts next year, the Council will likely be introducing a chargeable garden waste collection and we anticipate this will generate many questions from the public.

In addition to these tasks you will be carrying out general admin duties such as updating databases, processing accounts and handling routine enquiries that have been passed on by the contact centre via telephone, or received directly via e-mail and letter from members of the public. You will need to liaise with the contractor on operational issues such as missed bins and assisted collections and will have an opportunity to attend community events to promote waste activities such as recycling and composting.

You will require Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or equivalent and some experience of working in an office. You should be a confident user of IT such as Word and Excel and be quick to learn as you will be required to also use dedicated Council systems. You must be able to deal effectively and sympathetically with members of the public and be able to work as part of a team with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to good customer service. As this role involves regular contact with the public, you will need to have fluent spoken English in order to be able to liaise with customers and colleagues.

We offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership.

Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
